Sovereignty, open standards and honest, sourced argument over assertion — a European way of building the same advanced technology, not a smaller version of it.
Underneath the five commitments sits a disposition that is recognisably European: a preference for sovereignty over dependency, for open standards over private lock-in, and for argument that shows its sources rather than asserting a conclusion.
I want to be precise about what this does not mean. It does not mean building less ambitious technology, accepting a performance discount, or treating regulation as a substitute for engineering. Europe does not need a smaller version of what exists elsewhere. It needs production-grade silicon, built to the same standard, with these constraints designed in from the start.
That is the bet Openchip is making with real silicon, and it’s the reason everything I publish here is dated and sourced. If the argument only works when you don’t check the numbers, it isn’t an argument worth making.
